Yelan is a 5-star Hydro Bow character shines both on and off the field, offering versatility and utility comparable to Xingqiu, albeit with a slightly different playstyle. Positioned as a flexible addition to any team, she adds significant value with her Elemental Burst, making her a valuable asset in various team compositions.

🟢POSSITIVE:

• Yelan's similarity to Xingqiu enhances team synergy and offers greater flexibility in team compositions.

• Her Elemental Skill modestly groups enemies together, aiding in crowd control.

• Yelan's damage scales purely with HP, making even 3-star Bows effective as her ATK stats are irrelevant, ensuring a wide range of weapon choices and a straightforward build.

🔴NEGATIVE:

• Yelan's reliance on pure HP scaling limits her ability to benefit from certain buffs like Hydro Resonance, DMG% buffs, and Resistance Shred.

• Despite being a 5-star character, Yelan's kit and effectiveness are comparable to a Constellation 6 Xingqiu, which may make her considered a luxury pull by some players.

• Yelan should not be seen as an upgrade to Xingqiu but rather as a side-grade offering different utilities. Unlike Xingqiu, she lacks defensive abilities and focuses primarily on single-target damage. Additionally, her Energy requirements are exceptionally high unless paired with additional Hydro units or other energy generators.

It's easy to see why Yelan is often likened to Xingqiu to the extent of being called a 5-star version of him—they share similar Burst functionality, cooldowns, Energy generation and requirements, and even belong to the same Element. However, there are several key distinctions:

Xingqiu adds extra Hydro damage with his Rain Sword orbitals. Without Constellations, Yelan cannot match or exceed Xingqiu’s Elemental application.

Yelan lacks defensive abilities, such as micro-healing, Damage Reduction, or Interruption Resistance, which Xingqiu provides. Instead, she offers powerful offensive buffs to herself and/or her teammates, depending on equipment.

Yelan and Xingqiu's personal damage output is similar. For instance, a Constellation 0 Yelan with Aqua Simulacra deals comparable damage to a Constellation 6 Xingqiu with Primordial Jade Cutter. However, factoring in Yelan’s 4th Ascension Passive, she contributes more to team damage.

Given these points, it's preferable to see Yelan as a potential partner for Xingqiu. Pairing them proves remarkably effective because they complement each other, boosting overall damage output and forming one of the strongest and most versatile duos you can play.

For example, Xingqiu often wields the Sacrificial Sword or Favonius Sword to help charge Yelan's Burst. With Constellations, Xingqiu also reduces Hydro Resistance, benefiting Yelan. Furthermore, Xingqiu offers defensive utility to compensate for Yelan's purely offensive playstyle. Both characters have similar cooldowns, allowing them to act in sync. Together, their combined Hydro application ensures frequent Vaporize reactions for your preferred Pyro DPS, while also capitalizing on Yelan's A4 buff.
