Punish Greed... with Greed?
Giratina is arguably the best EX Pokemon this expansion. Combinations with both Darkrai and Mewtwo have taken the meta by storm. There’s more to do with Giratina than just that though, and I wanted to make use of this beast to enhance one of my favourite psychic types in Pokemon Pocket: Alakazam.
Yes, we got a new Alakazam this set, but I believe the old Alakazam matches up very well into the meta, for the same reason Gallade does. Alakazam’s Psychic allows us to one shot a fully enabled Giratina no matter what. We also get to terminate our friendship with this god awful Kadabra, and bring in Kadabra 2.0, who can be actually useful.
Today’s deck is a classic sit behind Druddigon, to then blast them with Alakazam’s Psychic. We can spend our early turns building up both Alakazam and Giratina, to fire off back to back overwhelming attacks. Since we’re running Druddigon, a full set of leaf is mandatory. Leaf also allows us to pivot out our Giratina leads without losing our energy built up onto them.
One copy of Giant Cape is our tool of choice here, as it allows both Alakazam and Giratina to dodge meta relevant high end attacks.
This deck certainly has weaknesses in the meta, but Alakazam still has the ability to hard punish greedy tactics, and with Giratina as a teammate, you no longer have to ride the entire end game on him.
