YMIR GO BOOM!!! Giant walls, Giant freezes, Giant slows, Giant...ICE GUY? Ymir is a great god to lock down your opponents and ice out the game. Wall, freeze and slow the bad guys and then club them over the head to assert your true icy dominance.

Ability Leveling Order

Ymir is really odd for leveling. He is very situational in what he wants to do.

  • If you are not having trouble getting to targets, need a bit more uptime on your slow, and/or want a bit more damage focus on your 2
  • If you are facing a lot of immobile characters or characters without leaps/blinks, then leveling your 1 gives you a lot longer on the duration of your wall and reduces its cooldown so it could be a good option.
  • If you are just needing longer lockdown on an enemy, your 3 is the way to go. The stun gets longer per level
  • Typically you will take a point into your ult any chance you get, but with only damage and cooldown when you rank it up, sometimes you can forego putting a second point into your ult for more readily available utility.

For newer players, the best leveling in my opinion is: 4>3>2>1

but ymir is a very flexible ice block

Basic Attack - Melee

Deal Magical Damage to an enemy in front of you

Stats:

  • Damage Scaling: 100% Strength + 20% Intelligence
  • Range: 1.92 meters
  • Cone Angle: 120 degrees

Passive - Frostbite

Your abilities apply Frostbite, causing enemies to take more basic attack damage from you and to deal less damage to you.

Stats:

  • Damage: 185% Strength + 37% Intelligence
  • Reduced Damage Dealt: 15%

Notes:

  • Frostbite's effect stacks with Critical Strikes

Ability 1 - Ice Wall

Create a Wall that Displaces enemies on creation. Applies Frostbite to Displaced enemies.

Stats:

  • Duration: 2.5/3/3.5/4/4.5 seconds
  • Range: 11.2 meters
  • Radius: 3.25 meters
  • Cooldown: 15/14.5/14/13.5/13
  • Cost: 50/55/60/65/70

Notes:

  • The wall impedes all characters
  • Create a wall at your feet to displace yourself up and forward
  • displaces enemies up and away from the wall
  • reactivate to destroy the wall early

Ability 2 - Glacial Strike

Smash your club into the ground, creating a field of ice that deals Magical Damage and Slows

Stats:

  • Damage: 90/145/200/255/310
  • Damage Scaling: 70% Intelligence + 55% Strength
  • Slow: 25%
  • Slow Duration: 2 seconds
  • Range: 6 meters
  • Radius: 3.6 meters
  • Cooldown: 8/7.5/7/6.5/6
  • Cost: 45/50/55/60/65

Notes:

  • Damaging area starts at ymir and moves away over time
  • Ymir is slowed by 42.5% during casting of this ability

Ability 3 - Frost Breath

Unleash your freezing breath, Stunning enemies in front of you and dealing Magical Damage

Stats:

  • Damage: 50/85/120/155/190
  • Damage Scaling: 55% Intelligence
  • Stun Duration: 1/1.15/1.3/1.45/1.6 seconds
  • Cone Angle: 90 degrees
  • Cooldown: 14 seconds
  • Cost: 40/50/60/70/80

Notes:

  • Ymir is rooted during the cast of this ability

Ultimate Ability - Shards of Ice

Freeze the air around you, Slowing enemies as you channel. After 3 seconds, erupt with a burst of Magical Damage to all enemies within range. You may cancel this ability early, dealing reduced damage. You are CC Immune while channeling this ability

Stats:

  • Damage: 550/750/950/1150/1350
  • Damage Scaling: 160% Intelligence + 30% Protections
  • Slow: 40%
  • Radius: 5.6 meters
  • Cooldown: 90/85/80/75/70 seconds
  • Cost: 80/90/100/110/120

Notes:

  • Damage scales linearly from 35% to 100% based on channel time
  • Max Channel time of 3 seconds
  • You are rooted while channeling

Gameplay

In the early game, ymir is a genuine threat with the strong slow on his 2 and his enhanced autos. You will not be able to solo a enemy right away, but you can do a lot of damage, and your wave clear is pretty solid. Hitting level 2 first allow you to look for kill pressure with your ADC by taking your freeze or wall and locking down the enemy. Be cautious fighting in wave, as taking a lot of damage can cause you to get turned on. Ymir is immobile without his wall so keep this in mind. In the mid game use your 2 to and wall to create set up opportunities or apply pressure. Your 3 is best saved for peeling or continued lockdown if the fight looks like it will continue. In the late game look for a clean wall to isolate an enemy or cut off a line of attack and then press in for follow up CC and damage.

Conclusion

Be the tank you needed when you were a squishy. Prevent your teammates from dying with immaculate peels, then trap your foes between a wall and a nuclear warhead as you channel your ult for maximum effect. Go blow up
