What is this guide about?
One of the more popular Portals in TFT is called Crab Rave. It transform all PVE Minions into Scuttle Crabs that grant bonus loot. They are completely harmless until Stage 5-7, where you will encounter the Monster Crab. This PVE Stage is extremely difficult to beat, often resulting in players losing the fight and dying if they have 11 or less HP.
The Monster Crab
Starting in Stage 5-7 you will encounter the Monster Crab. It has very high stats:
- 20.000 HP
- 200 Armor
- 200 Magic Resistance
The main problem besides the high defensive stats is that your team takes progressively higher physical damage, to the point that your units will eventually get one-shot. It's not possible to avoid the damage, making this fight a race against time.
Omnivamp
Omnivamp can help to keep your carries alive longer, increasing your chances to survive the fight. Here are some potential sources you want to look out for:
- Items: Gunblade / Bloodthirster / Death's Defiance
- Augments: Row Rejuvenation
- Traits: Warrior / Multistriker (7, 9) / Preserver
- Integrated Healing: Lillia / Olaf / Briar
Some comps like Multistriker are usually safe against Crab Rave, since they like to run Bloodthirster anyway and have bonus sustain from 7 Multistriker.
Other comps like Bastion Ahri reroll can often struggle, because Ahri doesn't deal enough damage to take down the Crab by herself and the tanky 3 Star Frontliners won't help.
Burn Effects
You always want to have some form of Burn active. While the true damage from Burn caps out at 100 true damage per second against PVE Mobs, you can still end up with 2000-2500 true damage throughout the fight. You can get burn from:
- Sunfire
- Morello
- Red Buff
- Dragon (2)
- Blistering Strikes Augment
Keep in mind that Radiant Burn items will show a higher burn %, but still deal the same amount of damage against PVE.
Shred and Sunder
Aside from burn, you always want to make sure you have as much Shred and Sunder as possible, since you can increase your damage a lot by reducing the high defensive stats.
- Sunder (30% Armor Pen): Last Whisper, Evenshroud, Obsidian Cleaver
- Shred (30% MR Pen): Statikk Shiv, Ionic Spark, Obsidian Cleaver
- Final Resistance (30% Sunder and Shred)
- Syndra: 20% MR Pen
- Twitch: 20% Armor Pen
- Zoe: 10/15/20 Flat Reduction per cast
Artifacts
Useful Artifacts you want to look out for are:
- Blighting Jewel on Karma/Norra to reduce MR to 0
- Vampiric Scepter for Warwick Reroll
- Death's Defiance as alternative to Bloodthirster
- Deathfire Grasp for 20% Max Health Burst at start of fight
- Horizon Focus to deal 30% Max Health with every CC
- Talisman of Ascension on unit that survives long enough
Execute Effects
Pyro is incredibly useful, since you can proc the execute effect if the Crab drops low enough. If you're playing tank Nasus he should usually stay around until the very end of the fight and it's definitely possible for him to finish the fight by himself.
Outside of Pyro you can also execute the Crab with Gold Collector or Hunting Frenzy Augment.
Strategy 1 - Add Zoe
If you're playing any sort of AP comps you need to identify which units won't contribute anything to the fight. You can usually replace most of your frontline unless they have Sunfire.
Collect Zoe throughout the game and keep her on your Bench. Give her items like Mage Emblem and/or Tank items to make her cast as often as possible. This will heavily increase the damage output of your AP Carries.
Strategy 2 - Add Karma
Karma is arguably the strongest unit in Set 12 to deal with the Monster Crab. She will throw two Dot's on the Crab and refresh their duration with each cast. This will cause her damage to stack incredibly high, making her the most efficient damage dealer for this fight.
Collect Karma in mid game and have a Magnetic Remover ready to transfer AP items on her and she will contribute up to 10000 damage, making this fight much easier.
Strategy 3 - Add Xerath and Arcana
If you're playing something like 8 Portal, then the trait won't help you at all to deal with the Monster Crab and most of your units on the board are useless.
Collect Arcana units like Ahri, Hecarim, Tahm Kench and Xerath. Make Xerath into your High Arcana , so your entire team will deal bonus true damage. This way you can add a lot of bonus damage to your team, heavily increasing your chances.
