An article from the TFT team has just been published on their official Twitter account (@TFT). This article reviews various aspects of Set 12 and also hints at upcoming changes for Set 13. Highlights include:
- New portal system;
- The return of a trait similar to Fortune (or Piltover, Heartsteel, etc.);
- Hero augments.
You can find the full article here , but for the section related to TFT Set 13, I’ll provide a recap right here!
- Change on Portal Mechanic -
The portal system is undergoing an overhaul to make it more approachable for new players. This change will be implemented through a new mechanic which introduces 10 different opening scenarios, each associated with a key character from the set. Here are some of the main options:
- No Opening Encounter Game: This will occur in 40% of matches, offering a standard start.
- Jinx: Crab Game: This includes two variations—Scuttle Puddle (5%) and Crab Rave (5%).
- Redacted: A mysterious option called Wandering Trainer, appearing in 3% of games.
- Heimerdinger or Ekko: Linked to Prismatic Games, divided as follows: 5% chance for a Prismatic Augment Opener/ 2.5% for a Prismatic Augment Finisher/ 2.5% chance for All Prismatic Augments throughout the game.
Additional configurations will include setups like All Gold Augments, Loot Subscriptions, and other surprises, which will be detailed in future updates. This new system aims to diversify gameplay and add thematic depth tied to characters.

- Fortune Change -
With the introduction of Into the Arcane, there will be a high-stakes trait added to the game. This trait is designed to create extremely powerful and unpredictable board states, promising intense and dynamic gameplay moments.
Players can expect game-altering mechanics that add excitement and risk to their strategies. More details about how this new trait functions will be revealed later, but it’s clear that it will be a bold addition aimed at shaking up typical game strategies.
- Hero Augment Change -
The approach to Champion Augments is being revised to balance their impact throughout the game. Key changes include:
1-cost Champion Augments will be shifted to Silver tier, ensuring they have a lesser impact in later game stages, making them more suitable for early use. 2-cost and 3-cost Champion Augments will remain part of the game, continuing to provide mid- and late-game strategic options.
An additional expansion related to Champion Augments is hinted at but will be detailed later. This upcoming change is expected to align seamlessly with current learnings and augment mechanics, enriching the gameplay experience.
- Tocker's Trial Return -
Tocker’s Trials will be reintroduced as an onboarding mode for the new set "Into the Arcane". This mode will only be available in Normal mode, with no Chaos mode option.
The main reason for this decision is to provide a more accessible and structured learning tool for new players. The developers believe that by focusing on the Normal mode, they can create a better environment for beginners to understand and enjoy the game without the unpredictability of Chaos mode. This approach aims to help new players familiarize themselves with the mechanics and strategies of TFT in a more straightforward setting.
