What is an Anomaly in Set 13?
Anomalies are the new set mechanic. It is offered in Stage 4-6, and it works similarly to the Treasure Dragon from previous sets. You can upgrade one of your champions by dropping it on the Anomaly hex and choose an upgrade. You can also reroll an anomaly for 1 gold if you don’t like what you see. I highly recommend putting this on your most important unit that game.
Which TFT Unit do I use Anomaly on?
The general rule is to use it on your primary carry. However, since the game is perfectly balanced /s, using an Anomaly on a different unit is very viable. For example, you can use it on your primary tank or secondary carry if you need to save gold and can’t roll too hard. For example, if you have an AD carry as your primary, a main tank, and an AP carry as a secondary, and an AP Anomaly shows up, you can sometimes take the AP Anomaly on your secondary carry. However, if you do have gold to spare, you should look for an Anomaly that works on either your primary carry or tank.
You should also assess what your team needs. TFT is all about balance–you need both defense and offense. If you have an aggressive trait such as Sorcerer which gives a lot of ability power and you also have 3 offensive augments such as Manaflow, Blistering Strikes, and Pumping Up, you may want to use your Anomaly on your main tank to get some tankiness on your team even though Zoe usually uses the Anomaly if she’s the carry in your Sorcerer comp. Again, this is because you need to build a balanced team instead of going all in on offense or defense.
Prioritize using your Anomaly on your most upgraded unit with the most items in most cases.
For example, if I have an Illaoi 2* with 3 items and a Heimerdinger 2* with 1 item, I will use my Anomaly on Illaoi since they are both 4 cost units and the same star level, but Illaoi has more items.
As per usual, I will always put my recommended unit for the Anomaly on my Meta Snapshot that I update throughout the set.
Should I reroll my Anomaly?
You should reroll your Anomaly until you find one that fits your team, and it will usually be your primary carry. However, sometimes you can take an anomaly and choose to not reroll if it can be used on a suboptimal unit if you have a multi-carry comp or a strong tank that has items.
I’d say in general, take your Anomaly by follow these rules:
- For your Main Carry, if you get at least a 7/10, take it
- For your Main Tank, if you get at least an 8/10, take it
- For your Secondary Carry, if you get a 10/10, take it
- If you need to use your gold for upgrading your team in other ways, bump the number down by 1 for the rules above
- Reroll the Anomaly if it doesn’t fit any of the criteria above
