Introduction
Generally, Mualani performs the best in a Vaporize team. You can use a better variant which is a burn/vape team (basically having a dendro in a team to apply longer Pyro on the enemy). This guide will give you a tier list of characters that works with Mualani, and some example teams you can use as a reference.
General Team Formula
Generally you'd want Mualani, a Pyro Character, a Dendro Character/Flex, and a Flex Character last. So let's rank each slot one by one starting from Pyro Characters.
Pyro Options
Pyro Options Details
S-Tier
Xiangling - Honestly the best option for Mualani for the time being, she has a good pyro application, really good damage (especially in vaporize), and only need a short on-field time.
A-Tier
Thoma - He can stack shields while applying pyro often enough.
Dehya - Dehya is slightly better than Thoma in this case, both offering the same thing. They give your team some sustain while applying Pyro on the enemy pretty well.
B-Tier
Bennett - A good healer, but doesn't have consistent pyro application. Flat ATK buff doesn't increase Mualani's damage, but it can still increase other ATK scalling character's damage
C-Tier
Klee - Not consistent enough pyro application, you need Kazuha/Venti/Sucrose to keep up the Pyro. Decent Sub-DPS, might be higher than C-Tier but only at C4.
Xinyan - Not consistent enough pyro application, you need Kazuha/Venti/Sucrose to keep up the Pyro.
Amber - Not consistent enough pyro application, you need Kazuha/Venti/Sucrose to keep up the Pyro.
Dendro/Flex Option
Dendro/Flex Option Details
S-Tier
Emillie - Provides consistent enough Denro application, especially against single-target. Burning increases her damage significantly, so she'll provide a lot of damage by herself in the team.
Yelan - Yelan fits the role really well as a Hydro off-field DPS. Good Hydro application, a lot of damage, and she scales with Max HP as well.
Furina - Fits the same role as Yelan. Providing damage buff to the team at the cost of the team's HP. She's a dual-edged sword, but a healer can balance the HP decrease.
Kaedahara Kazuha - Gives Elemental Damage Bonus on swirls, and shreds the enemies' Elemental Resistance with the 4 Piece VV.
A-Tier
Kachina - Run her with 4 Piece Scroll. She'll have a good off-field damage while providing a buff for the team.
Nahida - Her skill will give you a consistent enough Dendro application, just like with burn/melt Ganyu teams. Though she can't re-apply pyro as consistent in a burn/vape team, and her EM scaling will be somewhat wasted. (better put in bloom or hyperbloom teams)
Sucrose - Can shred enemies' Elemental Resistance with 4 Piece VV and group small enemies. She will also give a lot of Elemental Mastery to the whole team, increasing Vaporize damage
Baizhu - Has good healing, decent shielding, and decent dendro application. Will keep your team alive.
Yaoyao - Fills the same purpose as Baizhu. But without the shield and she needs a longer on-field time to stack her bunnies.
Candace - Her burst can increase Elemental Damage on Normal Attacks (Mualani Normal Attack on her surfboard counts as Normal Attack damage so it works with Candace burst). She also scales with HP.
Xingqiu - Basically a 4-star Yelan. Doesn't scale with HP and generally will be better on a National Team.
Mona - The damage buff on her burst can help a lot, but it doesn't last long enough and is not that consistent.
Chiori - Really good off-field DPS option. Even better in a Double Geo team.
B-Tier
Lynette - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Gives attack buff (for Xiangling) after using burst.
Venti - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. The best at grouping enemies, but you can't pull bosses.
Jean - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Gives really good heals when needed, and has decent damage.
Collei - Only applies Dendro consistently off-field with bursts. But she can do some damage herself.
Albedo - Decent off-field damage, and his burst gives 125 Elemental Mastery after casting, giving more Vaporize damage.
Kirara - Really good Dendro shielder, but might need some time on-field against single-target to stack her shield.
C-Tier
Sayu - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Has good heals, but might take too much time on-field.
Kamisato Ayato - Good Sub-DPS. Skill is not gonna be used too much (or he'll take too much on-field time).
D-Tier
Yun Jin - Buff from burst is not that significant and not as consistent.
Nilou - You can play with her on Bloom, but that's about it
Anemo Traveler - Skill makes you immobile for too long, and the burst will make it hard to hit small enemies.
Dendro Traveler - Can apply dendro, but if there's any pyro their burst will explode, providing no off-field Dendro Application.
4th Slot Flex Option (Sustain/Buffer)
4th Slot Flex Option (Sustain/Buffer) Details
S-Tier
Zhongli - Really strong shield while reducing 15% elemental resistance of the enemies around the shield. Very easy to use.
Kaedahara Kazuha - Gives Elemental Damage Bonus on swirls, and shreds the enemies' Elemental Resistance with the 4 Piece VV.
A-Tier
Baizhu - Good heal and shield, can provide a somewhat consistent Dendro application off-field.
Yaoyao -Fills the same purpose as Baizhu. But without the shield and she needs a longer on-field time to stack her bunnies.
Sucrose - Can shred enemies' Elemental Resistance with 4 Piece VV and group small enemies. She will also give a lot of Elemental Mastery to the whole team, increasing Vaporize damage
Kachina - Run her with 4 Piece Scroll. She'll have a good off-field damage while providing a buff for the team.
B-Tier
Sigewinne - Good heals and decent damage. Can provide the Hydro Resonance as well.
Kirara - Really good Dendro shielder, but might need some time on-field against single-target to stack her shield.
Bennett - A good healer, but doesn't have consistent pyro application. Flat ATK buff doesn't increase Mualani's damage, but it can still increase other ATK scalling character's damage
Venti - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. The best at grouping enemies, but you can't pull bosses.
Jean - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Gives really good heals when needed, and has decent damage.
Lynette -Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Gives attack buff (for Xiangling) after using burst.
C-Tier
Kokomi - Too much hydro application, might steal the Vaporize before Mualani could. Good healer though.
Barbara - Too much hydro application, might steal the Vaporize before Mualani could. Good healer though.
Noelle - She can give you a good shield and heal. But she performs much better as a Geo DPS with her Burst. You can still use her if you don't have any other shielder/healer
Sayu - Can utilize 4 Piece VV. Has good heals, but might take too much time on-field.
D-Tier
Yae Miko - Good off-field damage. Can be used if you need extra damage and don't have anyone better.
Raiden -Good off-field damage and Sub-DPS. Can be used if you need extra damage and don't have anyone better.
Fischl - Good off-field damage. Can be used if you need extra damage and don't have anyone better.
Qiqi - Good heals. Can be used if you don't have any other healer above.
Layla - Good heals and shield. Can be used if you don't have any other healer above.
Charlotte - Gives good burst of heals, pretty good with Furina. Can be used if you don't have any other healer above.
Diona - Good heals and shield. Can give you some Elemental Mastery, but only if you're inside her burst. Can be used if you don't have any other healer above.
Kuki Shinobu - Good heals. Can be used if you don't have any other healer above. (or if you wanna go hyperbloom with Mualani I guess)
Anemo Traveler - Skill makes you immobile for too long, and the burst will make it hard to hit small enemies.
Overall Tier List
Best Teams for Mualani
Kind of a must for Mualani Vape
Really consistent Dendro application, especially on single-target. Deals high damage herself with the burning.
Really strong shield, elemental resistance shred, what more is there to ask for?
You can replace Xiangling with Dehya (Recommended to use her with Favonious)
You can use Nahida instead of Emillie if you don't have her.
Afterword & Conclusion
Thankfully, even though Mualani can only perform well in a Vaporize team, she has plenty 4-stars and 5-stars option. Xiangling stays as almost a must for her though. Even with multiple teams example, Xiangling remains in every single one of the best teams. You can play her still on a Taser team, Bloom team, or a Freeze. It's nowhere near optiomal, but if that's the characters you have or you just really want to, then no need to hold yourself back. She's a cheerful character, so go have fun with her!
