Who is Candace?
Candace is a 4-star Hydro Polearm character that provides a Hydro infusion for melee characters, a sizable damage bonus, and Hydro application at C6. In version 5.1, Travelers will receive her for free during the limited-time event, Chromatic Ode of Candies and Roses, celebrating Nahida's birthday.
This guide will focus on Candace's role as a Support.
Why should you play Candace?
She's the pretty village girl. Her eyes will lull you to vibrant dreams. But seriously, what she does is unique and beautiful. Her identity as a Hydro support enables many possible synergies in teams and playstyles. Want your team to be pretty and effective? Candace's your girl.
Candace provides:
- Hydro resonance.
- A baseline Hydro infusion for Sword, Claymore or Polearm characters.
- A moderately high Elemental Normal Attack damage bonus for all characters.
- Some defensive utility.
- Flexible field time.
With Constellation 6, The Overflow, Candace provides off-field Hydro damage every 2.3 seconds using her Elemental Burst when Elemental Normal Attacks damage opponents.
Candace's Talents
Normal Attack: Gleaming Spear - Guardian Stance:
- Candace has a 4-hit combo using her spear and shield. On the second Normal Attack, Candace performs a blunt hit with her shield, knocking small enemies and has the ability to break ores easily.
Elemental Skill: Sacred Rite: Heron's Sanctum:
- Candace can Tap or Hold this skill.
- Tap: Rushes forth with her shield, dealing Hydro damage in front
- Hold: Candace raises her Hydro shield and blocks incoming attacks from opponents. This shield charges up and damage increases when it is unleashed.
Elemental Burst: Sacred Rite: Wagtail's Tide:
- Candace deals AoE Hydro Damage and confers the PoCC effect to your active character for 9s:
- PoCC:
- Characters gain 20% Elemental Normal Attack damage bonus.
- When another character takes the field, a wave of AoE Hydro damage will be unleashed. Up to a max of 3 times.
- Gain a Hydro infusion for Sword, Claymore or Polearm characters.
A1 Passive:
- This simply allows her to instantly charge her shield when she uses it at the precise moment of being attacked.
A4 Passive:
- The Elemental Normal Attack damage bonus is increased by 0.5% for every 1000 Max HP Candace possesses. So 40K Max HP gives you an extra 20% on top of her baseline 20%.
Exploration Passive:
- 20% less climbing stamina consumption. It's useful.
What is Candace's gameplay loop?
Her Skill offers some defensive utility and generates energy for her Elemental Burst. Her Elemental Burst is her bread and butter - her main job is to increase the Elemental Normal Attack damage of her teammates and offer a Hydro infusion.
Tap or Hold?
Candace generates 2 Hydro particles (6s CD) on Tap and 3 Hydro particles (9s CD) on her Hold Skill. But because of the charge time and rotation guidelines, you should always try to perform the Tap skill as often as possible, only holding if you can afford the extra time or require the defensive utility.
Alright, how do I fit her in my teams?
Candace is fit for teams that want a Normal Attack buffer or a Hydro infusion. Her abilities allows her to fit in teams with an Elemental Normal Attack focused damage dealer. She pairs especially well in Vaporize teams with a Pyro DPS, Dendro teams where she generates Dendro cores for Hyperbloom teams, or Nilou teams where she enables another character to create Dendro cores.
- Elemental Normal Attack characters appreciate her buffs and fit into one of the flex slots in their team templates.
- Arlecchino, Yoimiya, Wanderer, Ayato, Kinich, Wriothesley, Clorinde, Hu Tao, etc...
- In Dendro teams, she can be the sole Hydro applicator or supplement. You will appreciate her in Hyperbloom, Burgeon, or Nilou teams.
- In Electro-Charged teams, her AoE Hydro application can be enormous. It can help characters like Kazuha trigger Electro-Charged with his Hydro-infused Normal Attacks and infused Elemental Skills/Bursts.
The possibilities are endless!
Example teams:
Gearing
Since all of her buffing capabilities involve her Elemental Burst, she appreciates energy as well as HP to take advantage of her Ascension 4 passive.
Energy: As much as possible - prioritize it over HP, please. Mine sits at 237%. Running her with another Hydro character or Favonius weapons will help it a lot.
HP: Max HP is secondary. Her Ascension 4 passive doesn't require intervals of HP, so invest as much as you'd like to maximize her buffing. I aim around 40k.
Constellations:
- C1: Extra 3s on buffing totalling to 12s. Pretty good.
- C2: +20% HP. All of her damage and buffing scales off of HP.
- C3 and C5: +3 Talent levels. Her talents don't increase her buffing potential. You're better off leaving them at lv. 1
- C4: Hold CD is the same as Tap. Good for better energy economy and more defensive opportunities.
- C6: Hydro damage every 2.3 seconds. Pretty good! Improves a lot of teams that want more application like Nilou or Vaporize.
Artifacts
The main pieces to look for are:
- +20% Energy Recharge: Emblem of Severed Fate, The Exile
- +20% HP: Tenacity of the Millelith, Vourukasha's Glow.
- +20% Elemental Burst DMG: Noblesse Oblige.
4pc Noblesse buffs ATK for the entire team. You can also build 4pc Emblem of Severed Fate for the extra personal damage, but it's not worth it. 4pc Instructor is a good option, but loses many stats as a 4-star artifact set. Remember, prioritizes Energy Recharge and then HP. Usually the best combo is 2pc2pc.
Main Stats:
Sands: ER/HP
Goblet: HP
Circlet: HP or Crit Rate if you need it for Favonius Lance.
Substats:
ER and HP. Always has been. Crit Rate too as aforementioned.
Recommended Sets:
Weapons
Two options: ER or HP.
Repeat it with me, ER or HP.
5-star: Engulfing Lightning (55%+30% ER)
4-star: Favonius Lance (30% ER), The Catch (45% ER), Black Tassel (47% HP), Kitain Cross Spear(6-12 Flat Energy).
Now what?
Have fun! Build her! She's too pretty to sit at level 1. I hope I convinced you that Candace is worth it!!
