Marechausse Hunter Guide - All The Character It's The Best Set On (By TGS)

Why Is It Great?

Marechaussee Hunter is an artifact set that got released in Fontaine. Its strength is that it provides a Crit Rate Bonus that can stack up to 36%, which potentially makes it an incredible choice on most characters in the game thanks to the versatility of the stats. However, the condition to enable that Buff is that the character has to lose or gain HP ( 3 Stacks in total, with each Stack lasting for 5 seconds). Note that HP healing overflow doesn't count, the HP value of the character has to go up or down for the character to gain a stack.

This normally makes the set rather inconsistent on all those characters that can't manipulate their own HPs through their kit abilities (example of characters who can: Neuvillette, Wriothesley).

The arguable best set in the game in terms of the Buffs it can provide for a damage dealing character. Other than providing Crit Rate Bonuses, it also provides Normal and Charged Attack Damage Bonuses, which are useful for plenty of characters.

But here is where Furina comes in. Furina's Elemental Skill progressively consume the HP of all the characters on the team throughout this duration. This HP consumption generates stacks for Marachaussee Hunter if the character holding it is on the field (Note, it DOESN'T work if the character holding it is off field).

As a result, Marechaussee Hunter can be used on about every character in the game as long as Furina is a partner on their team. This is incredible value, because Furina is one of the best choices on most of the teams in the game, and as stated before, Marechaussee Hunter's Buffs are incredibly versatile in usefulness.

This tier list indicates the value of the Marechaussee Hunter Set for on field damage dealers.

  • Best Choice Regardless: These characters have a HP Manipulation abilities good enough that it makes the set the best choice on them regardless of the team
  • Best/Shared Best If Furina Is On team: These characters either don't have HP Manipulation abilities at all, or they aren't good enough to make the Marechaussee Set a Stand Out option on them (example: Lyney), so Furina being on their team is required to make the synergy work
  • Generally Not Best: Even with Furina on team, Marechaussee isn't the best option on these characters, as either they have Damage Abilities that don't scale off Crit Rate (like Hyperbloom triggers), have peculiar playstyles that don't fit the set too well, or just have straight up better options.

A Few Noets

-Lyney, by himself can only sacrifice his own HP through his Charged attacks, and heal through his Elemental Skill. His Rotation is typically formed by Burst -> Charged Attack (1 stack) -> Skill (2 Stacks) -> Charged Attack (3 stacks) + 1/2 Charged Attacks. As a result, the Set scales too slowly on him to be a decisive best option if he's not alongside Furina, and most importantly he will get almost no buffs for his first attacks in the rotation, which reduce his frontload capabilities. Alternatives:Lavawalker, or DMG% + ATK% set combinations

  • Characters like Xiao that can get a lot of Crit Rate through Ascension Stats and/or Weapons, may not benefit take advantage of Marechaussee Hunter fully, as they can overcapon Crit Rate (go over 100%). In these situations, alternative Artifacts typically become more valuable.

  • For Characters that can go on Freeze Teams (Ayaka, Wriothesley, Ganyu) , the Blizzard Strayer set can be a superior option compared to Marechaussee. Blizzard Strayer provides 40% Crit Rate if the opponent is frozen and 15% Cryo DMG Bonus, which make it surpass Marechaussee overall. However, these characters can also be used on Melt/VapeMelt teams, in which case Marechaussee becomes the best option if Furina is on team

-Cyno, Sethos, Keqing, Dori are all characters that can trigger Hyperbloom if Furina is on their team. Hyperbloom is an Elemental Mastery Scaling Reaction, which doesn't benefit from Crit Rate. As a result, options like Gilded Dreams, that buff Elemental Mastery, or Thundering Fury, end up being better.
