A Guide to Worlds: Quarterfinal - GenG vs FLY / The west's last hope

Comments5

We have reached the last round of Quarterfinals and thanks to the Worlds format FlyQuest is the only team left from all western regions. Will they be able to pull off a miracle and advance to Semis or at least take some wins in the series?

GenG is considered a favorite not just to win this match but potentially the whole championship, their flawless performance from LCK Summer has certainly carried over to this day but NA has something that may catch them off guard, that being versatility. We've seen FLY pick champions that people would consider nonsensical like Nunu or Darius, but anything that GenG has no experience playing against may throw them off their game and get FLY an unexpected lead.

If there's any player that I will keep my eyes on this match it's definitely Bwipo. His massive and unorthodox champion pool will make these games interesting as he may surprise everyone by keeping up with top tier players at the international stage. Hopefully the rest of his team follows along so even if they can't find a way to win they will still give us a very exciting series. There's nothing more I would like to see more than GenG seem confused as they face unexpected situations.

Other than drafting I don't really see anything they could do better than GenG, they're without a doubt the underdogs. It is up to them to tip the scales as the last remaining warriors from the western hemisphere.

If you've been paying any attention at the main stage matches you definitely know GenG have been showing what perfect League of Legends is like. From LCK Summer Season to this day I can almost count how many games they have lost with just one hand; they show no weakness. It seems almost impossible to get a lead against these players, but even gods can bleed.

Their impeccable Macro game always being many steps ahead of any opponent, pixel perfect mechanics from all the players and astonishing teamwork is really hard to beat. They seem as the best player in the tournament but they have definitely played the least amount of games, there's much we're yet to see from them but there's also a chance they have nothing more to show.

It's a known fact that the way LCK teams draft team compositions is far from optimal and GenG is no exception to this; extremely predictible picks and overall very linear team compositions. We rarely see this players not picking a champion that they would normally play in a Solo Queue game.

This is not the first time we've seen GenG absolutely dominate any game they're in but somehow struggle to win series near finals or at Worlds in general. Will we see this trend continue of them wrestle to advance to finals or even win the tournament? Or is 2024 finally the year GenG lifts the trophy?

I'm hoping to be surprised by both teams during the match as this will most likely be a very fun series to watch.

Make your predictions in the comments! We give away 30€ in Riot Store Merch to a random person who guesses the winning team correctly.

As much as I want to see FLY win a game, or even the whole thing, this will most likely be a 3-0 victory for GenG.
