Introduction

Kassadin: The Void Walker

Kassadin, the Void Walker, is a powerful melee mage assassin in League of Legends. Known for his unparalleled mobility and magic resistance, Kassadin is a scaling champion who becomes a late-game powerhouse. His abilities allow him to dive into the backline, disrupt enemies, and escape unscathed. Despite his weaknesses in the early game, Kassadin’s potential in the mid to late game makes him a fearsome threat for any team.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Kassadin

  1. Strengths:

Magic Resistance: Kassadin’s passive, Void Stone, grants him reduced magic damage and the ability to ignore unit collision, making him highly effective against magic-heavy compositions.

Exceptional Mobility: Kassadin’s ultimate, Riftwalk (R), allows him to teleport short distances, making him one of the most mobile champions in the game. This ability enables him to engage, escape, and reposition effectively.

Scaling Power: Kassadin is one of the strongest late-game champions in League of Legends. As the game progresses, his damage, mobility, and survivability reach terrifying levels.

Mana Sustain: Nether Blade (W) provides Kassadin with both bonus magic damage on attacks and mana restoration, helping him sustain in prolonged fights.

Crowd Control and Interrupts: Kassadin’s Null Sphere (Q) can interrupt enemy channels while providing him with a magic damage shield, offering both offensive and defensive utility.

  1. Weaknesses:

Weak Early Game: Kassadin’s early game is notoriously weak, with limited wave clear, lower damage, and high vulnerability to aggressive laners.

Mana Dependency: While Kassadin’s abilities are potent, their high mana costs, especially when spamming Riftwalk, can leave him out of resources quickly if not managed carefully.

Squishiness: Kassadin is relatively fragile, particularly in the early and mid-game, requiring players to be cautious with positioning.

Item Reliance: Kassadin’s effectiveness heavily depends on itemization. Without core items, he struggles to impact the game meaningfully.

Kassadin Tips and Tricks

Play Safe Early: Focus on surviving the laning phase by farming under turret and avoiding unnecessary trades. Use Null Sphere (Q) to mitigate poke damage from opponents.

Use Nether Blade for Mana: Activate Nether Blade (W) to restore mana while last-hitting minions or engaging in fights. This helps manage Kassadin’s resource issues, especially during the mid-game.

Stack Force Pulse (E): Monitor nearby spell casts to charge Force Pulse (E) quickly. Look for opportunities to use it in team fights to slow multiple enemies.

Maximize Riftwalk Usage: Riftwalk (R) can be used for mobility, chasing, or escaping. Be mindful of its increasing mana cost with consecutive casts and plan your engagements carefully.

Target Priority: Kassadin excels at assassinating squishy champions. In team fights, use Riftwalk to dive into the backline and eliminate high-value targets such as ADCs and mages.

Itemization: Prioritize items like Rod of Ages, Archangel’s Staff, and Zhonya’s Hourglass to enhance Kassadin’s survivability and damage output. These items also address his mana and durability needs.

Game plan

  1. Early game
  • Play safe in the early game. You need time to come online and if you fall behind, you will struggle to lane and you will delay your first major power spike.
  • Focus on power farming and minimizing trading until you’re level 6. Once you unlock your Ultimate Riftwalk R, you can start to be more aggressive.
  • Once you’re level 6, you can look to play more aggressive as you can use your Ultimate Riftwalk R as a trading tool and something to fall back on.
  1. Mid game
  • Powerfarm in the mid-game. You need to earn as much gold and XP as possible so you can level up quickly.
  • Avoid fighting too much in the mid-game. It’s better for you to only fight when it’s going to work in your favour. Focus on farming rather than fighting.
  • Split up and farm the side waves once your ADC and Support have rotated to the mid lane.
  1. Late game
  • Group in the late game and stay with your team. If your team is good at team fights, stick with them.
  • If your team isn’t ahead or not very strong, you could try to split push and draw the enemies attention while your team sieges an objective elsewhere or does the Baron.
  • Kassadin is very good at getting picks thanks to his Ultimate Riftwalk R. Look for picks in the late game to get your team ahead. Capitalise on the numbers advantage by pushing and taking objectives afterwards.

Whether you’re diving into the backline with Riftwalk or turning fights with a well-placed Force Pulse, Kassadin offers an exhilarating experience for players willing to embrace the challenge of the Void Walker.
