Top Lane Tier List – Best champions for LoL Patch 14.22
Top lane has been invigorated in the past two years. After being considered an island for various seasons, top lane has gained increasing importance and the new map changes make it even more difficult to punish these solo laners.
If you’re not sure what you should be playing in the top lane though, don’t worry: here are the five best champions of the Patch 14.22 top lane tier list.
Check out also our tier lists for all the other roles:
These Are The Best Top Laners for Patch 14.22
- Aatrox
- Aatrox excels as a sustained damage dealer with self-healing and crowd control. His abilities grant him life steal, especially during his ultimate (World Ender), allowing him to heal back a significant amount of health. His Q (The Darkin Blade) can deal massive damage, and each phase of it has a unique area of effect, allowing Aatrox to adapt his positioning to deal maximum damage. This makes him effective in both 1v1 and team fights.
- Aatrox thrives in extended trades where he can fully utilize his Q combo. In lane, focus on hitting opponents with the edge of Q to maximize damage. Timing his ultimate well in fights can turn him into an unkillable force, so engage when your ultimate is up and look for skirmishes in the mid-game. In team fights, his role is to dive onto the enemy backline, sustaining himself while drawing attention and disrupting enemy positioning.

- Mordekaiser
- Mordekaiser is a powerful, AP bruiser who specializes in isolating and destroying key targets with his ultimate (Realm of Death). His W (Indestructible) gives him both a shield and a heal, making him tanky and sustainable in fights. With high base damage and the ability to gain bonus stats from his passive, Mordekaiser scales well and can become unstoppable in the late game.
- Mordekaiser's primary strength lies in his ability to take a high-priority enemy out of the fight with his ultimate. In lane, focus on harassing with Q (Obliterate) and using E (Death’s Grasp) to pull enemies toward you. When fighting, activate W to absorb damage and heal back when necessary. In team fights, use Realm of Death to remove an enemy carry or frontline tank, giving your team a numbers advantage.

- Darius
- There are quite a few melee top laners in the meta and whenever those champions are relevant, Darius’ importance spikes up. He can bully out most of them with his damage and gain substantial leads in the laning phase. While he may not be your late-game carry, you can utilize him to create strong pressure on the top side.

- Jax
- Who could’ve guessed that a Jax buff would’ve pushed him back in the meta? I definitely wasn’t surprised, considering he was already in a decent spot before the buffs. With the increased resistances on the ultimate as well as higher damage, Jax is one of the best top lane champions to carry games in solo queue. He doesn’t have the best laning phase but once you manage to break out of the first hurdle, you will be dominating side lanes and the teamfights.

- K'Sante
- K'Sante is a tanky top laner with great crowd control and adaptability. His unique ultimate, All Out, transforms him into a bruiser, sacrificing durability for increased offensive potential and repositioning ability. His crowd control abilities, Q (Ntofo Strikes) and W (Path Maker), allow him to lock down targets and absorb damage, making him an effective frontliner.
- K'Sante plays best when looking for extended skirmishes where he can fully utilize his crowd control and defensive abilities. Start by controlling lane with poke from Q and use W to engage or disengage as necessary. When going “All Out,” be strategic—his damage spikes, but he loses some of his tankiness, so it’s best used to secure kills on key targets or to disrupt the enemy backline.

- Yone
- Yone is a mobile skirmisher with high burst damage and strong engage potential. His Q (Mortal Steel) gives him a quick, repeatable poke tool, while E (Soul Unbound) allows him to engage in risky trades and return to safety. His R (Fate Sealed) is an AOE crowd control ability that can devastate grouped enemies.
- Yone thrives in lanes where he can poke with Q and set up for all-ins once he has his E. Use E to safely trade and pressure your opponent, as you can quickly reset to your original position. In team fights, look for opportunities to engage with R, ideally hitting multiple targets. Yone's job is to dive the backline and burst down high-priority targets, but positioning is crucial as he can be vulnerable when his E expires.

- Gragas
- Gragas is a versatile AP tank with strong crowd control and mobility. His Q (Barrel Roll) can poke and slow enemies, while E (Body Slam) provides an effective engage or disengage tool. His ultimate, Explosive Cask, is a game-changer, capable of displacing enemy champions, interrupting channels, or isolating high-value targets.
- Gragas offers flexible playstyle options: he can be a frontline tank, poke mage, or engage/disengage support depending on his build. Use Q to poke and control the wave in the early game, and look for opportunities to roam. In team fights, his primary role is to create chaos with Explosive Cask, either by isolating a squishy target or disrupting enemy formations. His Body Slam can chain CC with Q for a surprising amount of burst damage.

Each of these champions has a unique identity in terms of playstyle and strength. Knowing when and how to capitalize on their strengths will set you up for success in the top lane or as a flex pick in mid.
Good luck to you! - Cheng
