In the latest developer update, Riot Games has announced exciting news for the League of Legends community: all champions will now cost 50% less Blue Essence. Here’s why this change is happening.

Blue Essence Prices Slashed for All Champions After Community Feedback
Following days of criticism and disappointment from players, Riot Games has responded to community feedback. In the latest Dev Update and accompanying Dev Blog, Riot revealed that new players will be able to purchase champions at a reduced cost, with Blue Essence prices being cut in half. This change will go live in Patch 25.05, which is set to release on March 5, 2025.
Although this update might not be significant for long-time players who already own most champions, it will be a huge benefit for new players and accounts, who often struggle with limited Blue Essence. By reducing champion costs, newcomers will have an easier time expanding their champion pool and exploring different playstyles.
This change will primarily affect newer champions like Mel and those priced at 6300 Blue Essence, which will now cost 3150 BE. However, it’s still unclear if champions with unique pricing, such as Jhin (priced at 4444 BE due to his in-game theme), will see a price adjustment.
For example:
- Soraka - 225 Blue Essence
- Swain - 1575
- Sylas - 1575
- Syndra - 1575
You can refer to it in the game LOL.
Riot Games Reconsiders Its Decisions
In addition to the Blue Essence cost reduction, Riot Games has announced the return of Hextech Chests, much to the delight of the LoL community. Although they will be available in smaller quantities than before, this move shows that Riot is willing to listen to player feedback and make changes accordingly.
The topic of Hextech Chests was heavily debated recently, with some players even starting a petition to remove Riot Games’ CEO, Dylan Jadeja, accusing the company of prioritizing profits over player experience. The decision to bring back Hextech Chests indicates that Riot is paying attention to community sentiment and is ready to adjust its approach when necessary.
