Introduction
Maximize lane harassment by frequently poking your opponent before sealing the deal. Ensure you're utilizing your Passive to its maximum potential by incorporating an auto-attack after every trade.
During team engagements, position yourself near your ADC in the backline to ensure their survival. Strategically save your Ultimate ability (R) for the perfect moment to shield your ADC from the enemy.
Leverage your R for strategic ambushes around key objectives like Baron or Dragon. Concealing yourself in an unwarded bush to surprise enemies is an effective strategy for Sona.
Summary: Sona is recognized as a formidable support champion, boasting a versatile array of abilities that offer healing, poking, crowd control, and additional utility. Her capacity to consistently deliver healing, engage in poking, and execute crowd control, alongside her favorable scaling with items and levels, solidifies her as a top-tier choice in the support role.
Why Play Sona?
Strong laning phase with her Poke damage. Massive AoE buffs for your team and an amazing ultimate to deny enemies/protect your teammates. Overall a great Support to win most of the teamfights. While Sona might look easy to play, there are things that you will find really interesting in this guide and that you never heard or try before.
- Strengths
- Strong Poke
- Great AoE buffs
- Massive Ultimate
- Good Mobility
Sona is extremely strong and easy to poke in laning phase due to the fact that it doesn't require aiming. Her Kit offers a little bit of everything for your team (shield, heal, damage, extra damage, extra movement speed) and denies the enemies (reduce damage, reduce movement speed, stun). Solid! to sustain during laning phase and win teamfights with your strong Ultimate and buffs later on!
- Weaknesses
- Very Squishy
- Mana Hungry
- Slow Scaling Kit
Squishy! Sona need items. She has huge issues with mana and tankiness early laning phase. Her skills are not amazingly strong until she gets her very first or two items. Can easily get picked early on, requires a lot of positioning and knowledge of cooldowns on skills and spells of your team but most importantly enemy team's.
Sona Tips And Tricks
- Use your Passive to the fullest by always auto-attacking after a trade.
- Set up picks with your Crescendo (R) around objectives like the Baron or Dragon. Hiding in an unwarded bush and ambushing the enemy is a great tactic for Sona.
- Watch your positioning at all times. Stand next to your ADC at all times so you do not get picked off before or at the start of a team fight.
- Use your skills in fountain to load once, twice or even maximise your Power Chord (P). Its free afterall!
- Even if both bolts of Hymn of Valor (Q) hit the same enemy they can only be damaged by one. Also, if the target gets out of sight before the projectile hits them they will still be damaged.
- Aria of Perseverance (W) can heal stealthed ally champions without revealing them but the projectile will reveal their position on cast. Also it can heal clones like Wukong's Warrior Trickster (W), LeBlanc's, Shaco's ect.
- If no one is injured Aria of Perseverance (W) will target the closest allied champion.
- Crescendo (R) has a short travel time, and enemies will be stunned and take damage as soon as it reaches them, but if a target moves out of range as it is cast, the target will be unaffected.

How to Play Sona Support
- Early game
- Harass the enemy throughout the laning phase with your Hymn of Valor (Q). Your goal is to constantly harass the enemy whenever possible and get kills.
- After destroying the bottom lane tower, rotate to the mid lane and try to take that tower. This will open up the map and give your team a gold lead. Poke and harass the enemy Mid laner and force them away from the objective to make it easier to secure the mid lane tower.
- Whenever your Ultimate Crescendo (R) is up, try to use it on the enemy laners to get their health low. Ideally, poke them down first before using it to make it easier for you to kill the enemy.
- Mid game
- As a Support, you’re quite vulnerable and can easily be killed when going to ward, when you’re moving around the map, and when you’re alone. To reduce the chances of dying and getting caught out of position, try and stick with your team at all times.
- Keep a constant eye on what major objective is spawning next. If it’s spawning soon, make sure you place vision around the objective as quickly and as safely as possible before retreating to safety. Having vision around major objectives is key.
- Look for picks during the mid-game. If you can pick someone off with the help from your allies, you can abuse their death timer to earn more gold and possibly take a tower, an objective or get more kills.
- Late game
- Ward major objectives and place vision in high traffic areas in the late stages of the game. Keep them warded so you can see the enemy move around the map and see them starting the objective.
- Stay with your team at all times. Avoid moving around the map alone so you do not get caught out. Getting caught out will result in your team having to play 4v5. Do not ward alone unless you know where the enemy is.
- Peel for your allies as much as possible. Keeping them alive for as long as possible in team fights is a must in order to win the game.
Conclusion
Sona, the Maven of the Strings, is a highly versatile and impactful champion in League of Legends. As a support, she excels at healing, shielding, and buffing her teammates, while also providing utility through crowd control with her ultimate, Crescendo. Her auras, tied to her abilities, can adapt to different in-game situations, making her a strong pick in team compositions that rely on sustained damage or need an enchanter to keep the team alive.
Sona's scaling into the late game, along with her ability to contribute to both offensive and defensive plays, makes her a valuable asset to any team. However, she is vulnerable due to her squishy nature, requiring good positioning and awareness to maximize her effectiveness while avoiding enemy threats. Players who master her rhythm will find her to be a powerful and consistent support option.
