The Best Champions to One Trick Pony in Low Elo

Comments0

One-tricking a champion is one of the most effective ways to escape the abyss and climb the ranked ladder. Read on to learn which champions are the best to OTP in low elo!

While there’s no “get elo quick” scheme in League of Legends, there are a few strategies that can make the ranked climb that little bit easier. One strategy is one-tricking, or often called being a One Trick Pony (OTP), where you dedicate your time and effort into mastering a single champion.

One-tricking means you’ll be confident with all your mechanics and can focus solely on the macro side of the game. This gives you a lot more opportunities to identify a game’s win conditions and carry your team to victory. You’ll also be able to play your laning phase well (in theory), no matter the champion you’re up against.

One-tricking in low elo is especially effective. Many players lack a high level of macro awareness, meaning you’ll immediately be at an advantage in your games, and you also won’t be subjected to target bans like high-elo one-trickers are.

While you can one-trick any champion, there are a few champions that stand out in low elo — I’ve gathered the Top 5 below!

Nasus — Best Top Laner to OTP in Low Elo

I’ll kick things off with Nasus…aka Susan, the bonkin’ doge machine. Nasus is a top lane champion who strikes fear into low-elo players’ hearts. And that’s for a good reason: when he gets ahead, he can absolutely decimate the game and win 1vs5s effortlessly. This is especially the case below Platinum, where players struggle to shut him down early and play around his bonks.

This carry potential alone makes him a fantastic champion to one-trick in low elo. However, he does have a few other tricks up his sleeve (or I should say paw). He’s versatile, consistent in the meta, and has a kit that’s easy to master. Plus, he’s also an exceptional split pusher and can control the game by creating pressure across the map.

While most carry champions are also reliant on getting kills early to thrive, Nasus is one of the few champions whose win condition is farming (aka getting stacks). This makes him a lot safer and more reliable than other carry champions out there.

Just be mindful that Nasus is weak early on. Avoid overextending in your lane, place vision regularly, and keep your eye on the mini-map.

Lux — Best Mid Laner to OTP in Low Elo

Lux is a champion with a kit that shines out from the rest. Literally. Her abilities are so bright they scorch through her enemies’ health bars.

Jokes aside, Lux is a great champion to one-trick in low elo, especially if you enjoy a more aggressive, traditional carry playstyle. When her skillshots are mastered, she can effortlessly burst through squishy opponents and keep tanks under her control with her slow and bind.

Her long-ranged CC also allows her to be incredibly versatile. She can assist her team from a safe distance in skirmishes, set up ganks for her jungler, and even secure picks on overextended opponents. She also has a beefy shield, which she can use to protect herself from hard-hitting poke.

What’s more, Lux’s ultimate is incredibly powerful — particularly in low elo where players rarely respect its damage. For those not familiar, it’s basically a good ol’ laser beam of death that allows her to snipe low-health enemies. She can also use her ult in a skirmish to hit multiple targets and turn the fight in her team’s favor.

However, the main reason why Lux is such a good pick to OTP is that she can be played in both the mid lane and support role. This means you’ll always be able to play Lux, even if you get your secondary role. She’s also rarely ever banned in champ select.

Lux is fairly dependent on items, though, so make sure to secure as many picks as possible to rack up that gold (and keep your farming consistent).

Ashe — Best ADC to OTP in Low Elo

Ashe may be one of the oldest ADCs in LoL, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t worth your consideration! She’s a fantastic ADC to one-trick since her kit is full of damage, utility, and CC — all aspects that will allow her to carry game after game.

Ashe works particularly well in low elo because of her passive ability, which causes her attacks to apply a lengthy slow. Most low elo players find this mechanic incredibly hard to play around, giving you every opportunity to punish them during trades and fights. This slow also means you can self-peel yourself effortlessly and chase down low-health targets.

Ashe’s Hawkshot ability can even grant her vision of the enemy jungler throughout the game. This puts you at a phenomenal advantage in terms of macro, since knowing the jungler’s position will make it easier to make strategic plays and calls.

To top it off, Ashe’s global ultimate allows you to make across-the-map plays and impact fights even if you’re out of position.

While Ashe is relatively easy to master, she is immobile compared to ADCs like Zeri and Vayne. Position carefully in fights — a single misstep can leave you looking at the defeat screen.

Nami — Best Support to OTP in Low Elo

Feeling like a fish out of water in your ranked games? Then picking up Nami will no doubt give you the confidence you need to thrive! Her kit offers everything a support main could possibly want to carry their team to victory (and without stealing the kills).

Nami can heal her allies, dish out hefty poke, and provide reliable CC with her bubble stun and ultimate AoE wave. She can even buff her ADC’s movement speed and attacks, maximizing their potential tenfold.

Nami’s kit can be played defensively or offensively, and she can adapt well to practically any team comp. This flexibility makes her a fantastic champion to OTP in any elo. However, she is very squishy. Avoid taking constant trades and don’t overextend in lane.

Warwick — Best Jungler to OTP in Low Elo

Warwick isn’t exactly the flashiest jungler out there. However, he does offer an all-round kit that’s well-suited to one-tricking. Like many other champions featured here, his kit is versatile, packed with utility, and can remain viable no matter which matchup he’s up against.

He’s also phenomenal at clearing camps early, giving him plenty of opportunity to reach level 6 first and get ahead of the enemy jungler. He can even use his strong clear to secure key objectives like drakes and scuttles effortlessly.

However, what makes Warwick a particularly good jungler for low elo is that he’s fantastic at ganking. His W can identify low-health targets and grant him high mobility towards them, allowing him to chase them easily, and he can then use his ult to lock them down. This high ganking potential is perfect in low elo, where players typically overextend in lane and lack map awareness.

Warwick is also tanky and can provide a good frontline in teamfights. However, he does fall off in the late game pretty hard. Make full use of his early advantage and end the match quickly by securing objectives, kills, and turrets across the map.

Conclusion

Finding your OTP champion can be difficult, especially with over 160 champions in the game. However, if you’re serious about escaping low elo, you’ll definitely want to try picking up one of the champions above — they’re all perfect for the job!

But at the end of the day? The best champion to OTP is the one that you can spend hours — and I mean serious hours — playing without getting bored or frustrated.
