Introduction
Agni, the God of Fire, returns to Smite 2 with his fiery arsenal of abilities that can incinerate enemies and dominate the battlefield. Known for his strong Area of Effect (AoE) damage and crowd control, Agni excels as a mid-lane mage capable of applying consistent pressure in team fights. This guide will provide an in-depth look at Agni’s abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and offer build and gameplay tips to help you maximize his potential in Smite 2’s Open Beta.
God Lore
There are few elements as destructive or as purifying as fire. Agni, God of Fire, is the embodiment of both of these qualities, with a head for each. Though the source of his origin warrants debate - for there are many tales of his parentage ranging from two simple sticks rubbed together, to the cosmic energy that made all things at the beginning of time - Agni is a pivotal and important God with many duties to the Pantheon. He is the twin brother to Indra, God of the Heavens and Rains and chief among warriors. Conversely, Agni is chief among priests, acting as messenger between mortals and Gods. Every Hindu ritual and prayer is performed in front of a fire of some kind, so Agni carries the words and sacrifices, traveling between the Earth and the Heavens. He is welcome in every home and every hearth and much beloved by the Faithful. Through his flames, Agni provides heat and light, but also cleanses impurities. Smoke from his pyres create the air and hold the Heavens aloft. The sun, a source of fire itself, brings life-giving energy to the world, and his lightning streaks the sky during storms. For all his kindness and service, Agni has two faces. One is the face of kindness and purity, turned towards the people and Gods. His other face, grim and resolute, guides the God of Fire, to play his role in the cosmic cycle of creation and destruction, to burn and blacken all the atrocities of the world to ash.
Why Play Agni?
Agni is a versatile mage who thrives in both early poke skirmishes and late-game team fights. His kit is perfect for players who enjoy high-damage combos and area control. With abilities that synergize well for devastating crowd control and burst damage, Agni can easily influence the outcome of engagements. His playstyle rewards precision, strategic positioning, and timely ability usage.
Key Reasons to Play Agni:
- High Burst Potential: Agni’s ability combos, particularly involving Noxious Fumes and his ultimate, Rain Fire, can deal massive damage to grouped enemies.
- Great Crowd Control: The stun from detonating Noxious Fumes can turn the tide of any fight.
- Sustained Damage: Thanks to Combustion and abilities like Path of Flames, Agni has excellent damage-over-time capabilities.
- Mobility: Path of Flames provides a dash that grants displacement immunity, making Agni harder to lock down.
Agni Strengths and Weaknesses
- Strengths:
- High AoE Damage: All of Agni’s abilities have AoE effects, making him excellent for clearing minion waves and damaging grouped enemies.
- Strong Synergy: Agni’s abilities work seamlessly together. Using Noxious Fumes with Flame Wave or Rain Fire adds crowd control to his already devastating damage output.
- Flexible Playstyle: Agni can poke enemies safely from a distance or dive into skirmishes with Path of Flames.
- Scales Well: Agni remains a threat throughout the game, especially with proper itemization.
- Weaknesses:
- Skill-Dependent: Agni relies heavily on landing his skill shots. Missing a key ability can significantly reduce his impact in a fight.
- Squishy: As a mage, Agni has low health and is vulnerable to burst damage and crowd control.
- Mana-Hungry Early Game: Without proper mana management, Agni can struggle to sustain his pressure in the early game.
- Dependent on Combos: Agni’s effectiveness is tied to his ability to chain abilities together. Disruptions can hinder his output.
Agni Abilities
- Passive (Combustion)

When on a Hot Streak, Combustion is fully charged and using Flame Wave or Rain Fire does not consume Combustion.

Agni summons a cloud of noxious fumes which deals Magical Damage every second. Hitting the fumes with any of your other abilities detonates the gas, Stunning and dealing Magical Damage to enemies in the area.
