Amaterasu Introduction (Smite 2)

Amaterasu, the Shining Light, is a versatile warrior in Smite 2, embodying the power of the sun and offering a unique blend of support and damage. As a goddess of light and honor, Amaterasu excels in both offensive and defensive roles, with a kit that provides healing, buffs for her allies, and crowd control to disrupt enemies. Her ability to balance between dealing damage and enhancing her team's performance makes her a valuable asset on the battlefield.

With a combination of high mobility, sustain, and team utility, Amaterasu shines as an adaptable warrior who can influence the outcome of any fight, making her a reliable pick in any role, particularly in Solo or Support.

God Lore

As the first rays of dawn cross the horizon, before all else they touch the land of the rising sun. A realm of islands painted with the careful brush strokes of its deities. That morning light, which brings warmth and life is Amaterasu, the benevolent Goddess of the sun. Universally, she is adored. Less so are her brothers, namely Susano-o, bringer of storms, whose jealousy of his sister’s popularity drove him to burn her golden rice fields and shatter the sacred looms of her people. Grief stricken at the destruction, Amaterasu sealed herself inside a deep cavern. Her people suffered and the realm fell into crushing darkness. For an unknown time, she stayed there, hidden away from the atrocities of the world. Until, one day, came a thumping from outside. At first, she tried to ignore it, but curiosity called. Moving aside the great stone sealing the cavern, she peered cautiously out, only to stare into a polished bronze mirror. Blinded by her own reflection, Amaterasu was forced to creep further out to find the source of the sound. Hands grabbed her from either side and pulled her free of the cave. Gathered around were hundreds of friends and loved ones. Atop a wide tub danced Usume, Goddess of Mirth, creating the erratic drumming to the joy of all. Amaterasu smiled and light came back to the world. Seeing all those that depended on her, all those that loved her, Amaterasu vowed never again to hide away from calamity. She would, instead, face it, just as the dawn rises each new day.

Amaterasu Strengths and Weaknesses

  1. Amaterasu Strengths
  • Team Utility: Amaterasu excels at providing valuable buffs to her teammates through her Aura of Brilliance, increasing both movement speed and power in team fights, which can swing engagements in her team’s favor.

  • Sustain and Durability: Her passive Illuminating Strike and Heavenly Reflection provide healing, allowing her to stay in prolonged fights. This gives her strong lane sustain, especially in the solo lane.

  • High Mobility: With her Swift Vengeance dash, Amaterasu has great mobility, allowing her to chase down fleeing enemies, initiate fights, or escape when needed.

  • Strong Crowd Control: Amaterasu’s Dazzling Offensive provides a multi-hit ability that can stun enemies, offering strong control in team fights and one-on-one duels.

  • Versatile Playstyle: Amaterasu can fill multiple roles, including solo, support, or even jungle in some cases. Her flexible build path allows her to go tanky or bruiser, depending on what her team needs.

  • Late-Game Impact: Amaterasu’s utility and AoE abilities scale well into the late game, making her a constant threat in team fights, where her buffs and stuns can have a large influence.

  1. Amaterasu Weaknesses
  • Relatively Low Early Damage: While Amaterasu provides great utility, her early-game damage can feel underwhelming compared to other warriors. She relies on itemization to scale her damage effectively.

  • Skill-Dependent: Amaterasu’s effectiveness depends on landing her abilities, especially Dazzling Offensive and Swift Vengeance. Missing key abilities can reduce her impact in fights.

  • Vulnerable to CC: Despite her mobility, Amaterasu can struggle against teams with heavy crowd control. If locked down, she can be eliminated quickly before utilizing her healing or buffs.

  • No Hard Escape: While Swift Vengeance provides mobility, it’s a short-range dash that can still leave her vulnerable if out of position. Without the ability to blink or teleport, she can be punished for overextending.

  • Lane Pressure Early: In the solo lane, Amaterasu can be bullied early by aggressive laners who have stronger poke or wave clear. She often needs to focus on surviving until she gains items and power spikes.

  • Long Ability Cooldowns: Some of Amaterasu’s abilities have relatively long cooldowns, especially Dazzling Offensive, meaning she needs to choose her engagements carefully and can’t spam abilities in quick succession.

Amaterasu’s blend of utility, sustain, and crowd control makes her a strong, flexible warrior, but mastering her positioning and timing is key to maximizing her potential in Smite 2.

Why Play Amaterasu?

Amaterasu is an excellent choice for players who value versatility, team utility, and a balanced playstyle. Here are key reasons to play Amaterasu in Smite 2:

  1. Strong Sustain and Healing: Amaterasu’s passive and abilities offer healing for herself and her allies, allowing her to stay in fights longer and support her team effectively.

  2. Team Buffs: Her Aura of Brilliance provides movement speed and power buffs, making her invaluable in team fights and helping her team engage or disengage with ease.

  3. Crowd Control: With Heavenly Reflection and Dazzling Offensive, Amaterasu can stun enemies and deal significant burst damage, giving her both offensive and defensive options during battles.

  4. High Mobility: Amaterasu’s Swift Vengeance dash offers excellent mobility, allowing her to close gaps, chase down enemies, or escape from dangerous situations when needed.

  5. Lane Dominance: In the solo lane, Amaterasu's ability to poke, sustain, and buff herself with movement speed gives her a strong presence and makes her difficult to push out.

  6. Flexible Playstyle: Amaterasu can be built as a tanky frontliner or as a bruiser with more damage, depending on the team’s needs, making her a flexible and adaptable warrior.

Amaterasu is perfect for players who want a warrior that not only deals good damage but also provides valuable utility and support for the team. Her balance between aggression and team-oriented play makes her a great pick in various scenarios.

Amaterasu Tips and Tricks

  • Your gold buff is very effective in sustaining exchanges, remember that.
  • Your mirror is very good at times when you're going to receive a burst, and can totally turn a fight around.
  • Always try to farm as much as possible during the Early game but never overdo it. She grows a lot during the game, with the right items. In the Mid/Late game it is very strong. Always try to use auras and your ultimate in the best way possible.
  • Stay in you gold aura when farming in lane or during prolonged fights for the sustain, but switch to red when you are in a fight. You can always switch away from the red stance to disengage and heal up
  • Late game your two is really key in mitigating as much damage as you can. You can always get damage off with it but when you are in a more lengthy game your job is to disrupt while getting in and out. Balancing your ultimate and two play a huge part in keeping Amaterasu alive.
  • To stun with your ultimate you do not need to hit the same enemy 3 times. You can hit minions, 2 seperate enemies or even 3. As long as you hit 3 the final hit will stun whoever it lands on. This is good for switching up who you stun in a pinch to catch people off guard.

How To Play Amaterasu?

  1. Amaterasu can go Solo Lane or Jungle.

Amaterasu attacks enemies and silences them with Glorious Charge. Use Dazzling Offensive to finish off enemies quickly with her sword.

I really like amaterasu because it's an excellent option for playing solo, I think its kit is incredible and very complete, with immunity, crowd control and excellent self sustain. Let's move on to her abilities:

Passive - Illuminating Strike: When you attack an enemy three times with your auto-attack, it will mark them and they will receive more damage (including from your allies), and it also affects those close to them

Skill 1 - Divine Presence: You will heal yourself over 4 seconds, alternating between one of the following two effects:

Gold buff: You receive a life and movement speed bonus.

Red buff: Gives a bonus to attack speed, strength and intelligence.

Skill 2 - Heavenly Reflection: The amaterasu will charge your mirror and reduce all damage received while charging, and can be reconjured to fire a projectile forward.

Skill 3 - Glorious Charge: Causes silence in those in front of you, moving forward afterwards (Beware, you will stop at the first god).

Ultimate - Dazzling Offensive: You will become invulnerable and attack 3 times forward.

Leveling: I like to max out 1 first, then 2 and then 3 (Obviously the ultimate whenever possible).

Gameplay: Amaterasu grows a lot in the mid/late game, but I believe your lane is quite efficient, you don't have to be afraid to play, but don't abuse it haha.

Amaterasu is a great Solo in smite 2. They bring a great crowd control, a crowd control immune ultimate, solid burst damage and great self sustain.

Amaterasu had some reworks done in this new Smite, primarily around her ability 1 which gives movement speed, strength and intelligence but also has a 6 second additional effect.

Her ultimates, final strike now does a full AoE swing around her.

As of right now Amaterasu is traditionally a solo warrior.

She provides great self sustain and boxing potential all while being hard to gank due to her long dash and ultimate. She thrives with fast rotations and quick clears which helps her impact the game massively.

While she does have her strengths in the solo lane as of right now we don't know if this pressure will continue but I do think Amaterasu in support will be a great contender in this role. Her ability to help the ADC clear so much quicker than any other support and being able to out rotate any support will give her huge value in this lane and I do believe if you are having bad luck with Amaterasu in the solo lane. Try her in support and you will see great results.

  1. Game plan
  • Early Game

The solo lane start: You go to blue buff, dragging to the xp camp where your mid laner will pull speed camp. When you get the best angle on all the camps, use your 2 to aid in clearing. You also want to hit 3 autos on one of the camps first as this puts your passive on it (Increases damage in an aura).

Your mid laner will be assisting you in killing all these camps, try not to absorb too much damage that you are instantly killable in lane, but don't let your mid laner take that much damage as well (I usually pop my first health potion here). Don't forget to grab the blue buff, you don't want speed as you will run out of mana.

In lane you have 3 main objectives: Clearing wave as safely as possible is always #1 priority. The next two are important, but not as important as getting wave. I put getting totem over cooldown camp (early) because the mp5 given from totem globally has more impact than just getting a cooldown advantage/slight gold and xp lead.

  • Mid Game

This is realistically where you will be the most successful. Due to the nature of solo, you actually at this point should have a 1 ish level lead over everyone else on the map. If you can make it to the first beacon fight of 12 minutes, I would highly encourage you to do so. The solo laner rotating to this fight while the other stays in lane can lead to not only beacon, but also potentially kills and a gold fury.

Around this time, most gods should have 2+ items completed. Your two items and higher base damage should help significantly chunk the opposition. You should be able to severely threaten the backline at this stage.

With most hybrid items either being completely stripped of power or removed, warriors are left to rely on higher base dmg, and team play to get them through.

Amaterasu is a solo laner who should stay on objective as she helps shred it with her passive and power aura.

  • Late Game

Your goal right now is to play as a team, there is no more solo play. Getting picked can and will cost your team the game at this time.

By now, most structures are gone around the map. The only thing left really is finding the game ending window. I have seen games end because players get caught at Gold Fury, so try to not let that be your team.

Most games typically end by getting a pick around Fire Giant, getting Enhanced Fire Giant (Fire Giant evolves after 30 minutes). Taking as many birds as possible, then killing Titan as fast as possible. Sometimes games can be ended with as little as 1 bird down, most of the time the safest option is to take 2/3 birds and pinch in with enhanced minions pushing.

If you are losing at this point, your whole game plan is keeping them away from your Titan and trying to stall. Sometimes killing 1 when they have Enhanced Fire Giant is enough to stall a push for at least a minute plus (as long as you are all healthy).

When they siege you have your fountain to run back and forth to if you need healing, they are typically only being healed from EFG passive and whatever HP5/life steal they have. Waiting out a siege and letting them come to you does give you a chance to come up with a plan. Another thing I like to do is if their mage is consistently clearing wave with their main damage you can communicate it to your team to exploit and try a fight off that.

Remember though, if they do have EFG they are in a much better position to kill you, so be careful of any engagements you and your team takes.

The game is usually won before 2nd titan surge, but there is that as well to look out for in back and forth games/games where the siege defense is really strong. Pushing with the titan, EFG, and some enhanced minion waves should be game over in 99% of scenarios.

Position: Amaterasu

Amaterasu excels in the solo lane, where she can grow stronger through farming. She can also be played in the jungle, using her mobility and damage to gank lanes effectively.

Overall, play patiently in the early game, focusing on farm and objectives. In the late game, use your auras and ultimate strategically to control the battlefield and have a high impact in team fights

Conclusion: Amaterasu

Amaterasu is a dynamic and versatile warrior in Smite 2, offering a unique combination of healing, crowd control, and team utility. Her ability to provide buffs and sustain for her allies makes her an invaluable asset in both solo and support roles. With strong mobility and crowd control, she can engage in fights, disrupt enemies, and protect her team effectively.

While she may face challenges in early-game damage and vulnerability to crowd control, skilled players can leverage her strengths to dominate the battlefield. Amaterasu shines as a reliable choice for those who enjoy a balanced playstyle, capable of adapting to various team compositions and scenarios. With the right strategy and positioning, Amaterasu can lead her team to victory while embodying the power of the sun.
