How TFT Bastion Works
Bastion Trait Bonus

Champions: Jax 1g / Poppy 1g / Illaoi 2g / Shyvana 2g / Galio 3g / Sejuani 4g / Renekton 5g
Your team gains 10 Armor and Magic Resist. Bastions gain more. For the first 10 seconds of combat, Bastions increase their bonus by 100%.
- (2) 18 Armor & MR
- (4) 50 Armor & MR
- (6) 90 Armor & MR Non-Bastions gain an additional 40 Armor & MR.
Bastion is one of the more generic and straightforward traits, allowing a simple way to get some extra Armor and Magic Resist for the team. A two-piece bonus will net some defenses across the board, while also aiding the frontline thanks to the 100% bonus during the first ten seconds of combat.
Bastion Synergy
Here’s a rundown of the traits you can branch into from Bastion:
- Jax – Exotech
- Poppy – Cyberboss
- Illaoi – Anima Squad
- Shyvana – Nitro / Techie
- Galio – Cypher
- Sejuani – Exotech
- Renekton – Divinicorp
You generally won’t need an army of tanks, but there is actually overlap between Jax and Sejuani with their Exotech trait. Given the fact players will need to go vertical if seeking multiple Exotech items, there’s a pretty high likelihood of pairing the two together for the extra defenses at a minimal cost.
TFT Bastion Champions
Jax Exotech Bastion 1g
Jax is a 1-cost frontliner that uses his Ion Barrier ability to gain a Shield and deal magic damage to adjacent enemies. He’s about as simple as it gets, but both traits could come together nicely early on.
I imagine it’ll depend on which Exotech items are available during a game. If the first two items are good, Jax is an obvious pickup. If not, he’ll likely just enable Bastion until eventually being replaced later.
Poppy Cyberboss Bastion 1g
Poppy’s Buckler Toss ability has her throw a buckler at a distant enemy, dealing magic damage based on her Armor and AP to the target and enemies within range. Fairly ordinary on its own.
What makes Poppy stand out is that she’s one of the four units to have the Cyberboss trait. Once active, if Poppy is the strongest among them, she’ll get a sizeable Shield on top of every ability cast. This is a considerable difference early on, and when it comes to the late game, the trait should be enough of a reason to warrant her inclusion.
Illaoi Anima Squad Bastion 2g
Illaoi is a 2-cost tank with a useful ability called Bionic Battle Bear. This ability heals Illaoi, then deals magic damage to the target and nearby enemies. More importantly, each enemy hit has their Magic Resist reduced by 15 for the rest of combat. This makes her a great support for your AP carries.
Shyvana Nitro Bastion Techie 2g
Shyvana’s Burnout ability is quite unique. After the first cast, for the entire combat, she will continuously be healed every second while also dealing magic damage to adjacent enemies. The ability also increases Shyvana’s max Health and Damage Amp, allowing her to scale throughout a fight.
To top it all off, Shyvana comes with three traits, likely making her a sought after champion and an easy pickup as a 2-star unit.
Galio Cypher Bastion 3g
Galio has the ability to tank a ton of hits. After casting his Stonewall ability, he gains Durability for three seconds, then heals and sends a revenge whirlwind at the enemy (within 3 hexes) that dealt the most damage within that window.
Best of all, the whirlwind deals magic damage and Stuns the target for 1.5 seconds, temporarily disabling them from the fight. Given that it targets the highest damage-dealer, chances are you’ll Stun an important unit.
Sejuani Exotech Bastion 4g
Sejuani benefits even more from Bastion thanks to her passive ability. It increases the amount of Armor and Magic Resist she receives from all sources, which could really add up with enough support.
However, where she really shines is with her powerful Blue Screen ability. Sejuani throws an EMP at the nearest enemy which explodes after a two second delay, stunning all enemies within a 3-hex range. Having any form of CC is always useful for any team, but when it comes in AoE form it’s an absolute premium.
Renekton Overlord Divinicorp Bastion 5g
Renekton is an absolute monster of a unit with his Overlord trait, allowing him to deal 40% true damage to an enemy, all the while taking a percentage of their Health and Attack Damage. His Dominus ability also puts him into a frenzy, making him strike twice after the first cast, and thrice after the second. That’s on top of already dealing damage, applying Burn/Wounds to nearby enemies, AND gaining max Health.
The amount of text on Renekton is absurd, which all in all makes sense given his Overlord status. If all that’s not enough, his unique Divinicorp ability grants Attack Speed to the entire team. Renekton is crazy.
